Chemical Pumps
A Closer Look At Chemical Pumps
Seamless plant operations are vital, especially since the chemical industry places a high degree of importance on chemical pumps that deliver fluids accurately. Chemical pumps are available to suite a variety of needs from the transfer of simple fluids to those with temperature or corrosive extremes.
Types of chemical pumps:
- Chemical feed pump – effective, versatile and cost-effective as a water treatment device.
- Chemical injections pump – used to introduce chemicals into water for treatment or applications such as fertilisers.
- Chemical metering pump – used for proportioning and controlling the volume pumping of liquids.
Things to consider when buying chemical pumps:
- Determine the use of your desired chemical pumps.
- Determine your budget.
- Once you have purchased your pumps, ask your supplier about training or at least thorough instructions on how to use it.
Chemical metering pumps
- Chemical metering pumps can be operated either mechanically, pneumatically or electrically, depending on your requirements. Chemical metering pumps are not just basic chemical pumps as they have applications for municipal, pulp and paper, pharmaceutical water treatment, industrial and food processing, as well as the injection of treating chemicals into wellheads, flow lines and lease production facilities.
- They are also useful in refinery processes and the injection of methanol to prevent gas lines from freezing. Most chemical metering pumps have spring loaded check valves. These types of chemical pumps are designed to seal pretty tightly – otherwise they won’t be able to meter accurately.
If your suction pressure is higher than the discharge pressure, it is very possible to have uncontrolled flow through the pump. Some chemical pumps are not designed for positive suction pressure.
When buying chemical pumps, ask your supplier for references. If they are a quality business with a good reputation, they should be able to provide you with names and contact details of people they have already sold chemical pumps to.
